Big Mac Sloppy Joe's

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

This recipe is perfect for any take out lovers, but with a bit of a playful spin. Rather than making the same plain sloppy joe I decided why not combine it with a take out favourite, the Big Mac. We all love a good fast food binge, but would you not love it even more if it came from your own kitchen?!

Cook With Ease

Why have a Big Mac when you could have a Homemade Big Mac Sloppy Joe. Half the calories with twice the flavour!

Let's get started. Heat a nonstick pan on medium high heat. Spray with your preference of cooking oil and let it heat up. Once pan is hot, place ground beef in pan and break it in to small pieces with a spatula. Once the ground beef begins to brown, season it with salt and pepper to taste.

The key to a good meal is simplicity and the right seasoning.

As the beef continues to brown, dice your pickles and add 3/4 in to the pan. If your household also eats onions, add 1/2 cup of white onion to the pan as well. If you have a picky eater like I do, feel free to skip the onions. Sometimes I add a pinch of onion powder just to be sneaky and add a little extra flavouring, but again, completely up to you.

Let the pickles cook down for about two minutes. Once the pickles are slightly softer in texture, add about 1/3 cup of your favourite hamburger sauce. I use the Heinz Burger sauce, but feel free to use any sauce of your choosing that replicates the famous Big Mac Sauce. A few suggestions would be thousand island dressing mixed with mayo or simply an equal part mixture of ketchup, mustard and mayo. Any combination that creates the tangy sauce that makes your mouth water just thinking about it.

Stir in the "Big Mac Sauce" until fully coating all the beef and lower your pan to medium low, letting the beef simmer in the sauce to 2-3 minutes. While the beef mixture simmers, grab your favourite sesame seed bun and slather the top and bottom of the bun with your burger sauce. Add shredded lettuce and left over diced pickles to the top half of your bun. Add the beef mixture to the bottom half of your bun and add a slice of cheddar cheese on top. Allow the heat from the beef mixture to melt your cheddar cheese a bit before topping it off with your top bun.

And voila! There you have it, your very own Big Mac Sloppy Joe! Enjoy!
